MAINTENANCE SUPERVISOR

JOB SUMMARY:

 

Responsible for supervising the Maintenance Technical Department employees ensuring an effective PM Program for the plant keeping non-scheduled downtime to a minimum.  Additionally this position ensure's  that Joseph Campione Incorporated baking operations (NP &SP) complies with all GFSI, FDA, USDA, OSHA and EPA related policies including state, federal and local rules and regulations. The Maintenance Supervisor must develop and maintain a training agenda on key support methods (Allen Bradley PLC, Electrical, and Electro-Mechanical Troubleshooting fundamentals) supporting all Safety Programs that apply to Joseph Campione and coordinate efforts to ensure employees have a safe and healthy work environment.

 

RESPONSIBILITIES:

Responsible for Maintenance Department scheduling, meeting Key Indicators, ensuring accuracy of PM compliance - scheduling weekly equipment repairs/improvements during ALL available windows of opportunity. In addition the Maintenance Supervisor will maintain the computer based PM program keeping the data current and providing for accuracy of the parts/tool crib. Weekly updates and continued communication with both the Maintenance Supervisor and Director of Operations and other peers.  The Maintenance Department operates 7 days a week with 3 shifts and 25+ full-time staff.

 

 

JOB SETTING/WORKSITE

 

Physical layout:

  • 235,000 sq feet of manufacturing and warehousing; building design conducive to a food manufacturing facility

Equipment used:

  • General office equipment; mechanical and electrical equipment used for preventative maintenance purposes, heavy duty equipment such as welding equipment, shears, drills, saws, forklifts, scissors lifts, hoists, as needed to perform preventative maintenance tasks.

ESSENTIAL FUNCTIONS:

  1. Assist the Manager of Maintenance and Director of Operations and/or Senior Management in the management of the major company-wide capital projects.
  2. Develops, manages and communicates the capital projects assigned to the plant.
  3. Completes information regarding capital and expense related projects to include timeline, staffing allocations, costs and closure.
  4. Provides engineering technical assistance to the technical, operations and sanitation teams.
  5. Provides technical assistance and direction in process improvement initiatives and the analysis of the various manufacturing systems such as ovens, proofers, refrigeration system, and utility systems.
  6. If needed will assist the Manager of Maintenance and Director of Operations and/or Senior Management with the vender selection competitive bidding process, developing performance warranties and Factory Acceptance Tests (FAT's) documents as well as JCI SOP’s.
  7. Manage the idle assets located at the plant.
  8. Ensure housekeeping in all equipment and inventory storage areas.
  9. Provide the leadership in identifying cost savings opportunities in the current manufacturing process, be it capacity constraints, usage cost, speed improvements, or labor reduction.
  10. Implement systems to assure that product is manufactured in a safe and sanitary manner, with trained personnel and defined systems, on time and within specific ranges.
  11. Manage labor relations with through consistent practices while addressing employee hire / discharge practices, and other staffing requirements.
  12. Accountable as liaison of all GFSI Requirements; this includes but is not limited to support and vigilance in Development and Implementation, Development of Systems to provide for accuracy in application of the SQF Requirements, Appropriate action to both resolve and maintain performance values in accordance with SQF Requirements. 
  13. Accountable as liaison of all FSMA Requirements; this includes but is not limited to support and vigilance in Development and Implementation, Development of Systems to provide for accuracy in application of the HARPC Requirements and communication to all Food Defense Personnel (Need to Know) during meetings, floor visits, and associated internal audits.
  14. The Maintenance Supervisor is responsible for ensuring full compliance within the Maintenance and Technical Departments to all applicable GFSI and FSMA Requirements; this includes the training of personnel in expectations.
  15. Establish and communicate goals and objectives to the Maintenance Department personnel to address overall plant efficiency, mechanical downtime reduction, cost reduction opportunities, and mission statement activities.
  16. Implement programs to address work performance, absenteeism, GMP’s, safety awareness, plant sanitation and product quality expectations as agreed upon with the Director of Operations, Manager of Human Resources, Quality Assurance Manager and Sanitation Supervision.
  17. Monitors the performance of all outside vendors with respect to time, scope and cost.
  18. Implement programs to assure departmental capabilities meet or exceed the technological demands of the business.
  19. Conduct performance evaluations of the Maintenance Technical team and implement appropriate training programs to address developmental needs and further career development of same.
  20. Coordinates the efforts of maintenance, electric, hydraulic, pneumatic, electronic work teams and provides support to all phases.
  21. Observe the plants maintenance program.
  22. Support departmental efforts to provide technical training and guidance to technical and production team members.
  23. Represents the company’s position and interest effectively in dealing with outside contractors, vendors and outside engineering or consultants.
  24. Allen Bradley PLC literate, capable of electrical and electro-mechanical troubleshooting and repair. Having knowledge of AB/Rockwell, Siemens, Beckhoff, Fuji, Mitsubishi, SEW, Giddings & Lewis a plus.
  25. Electrical proficient in control circuitry trouble shooting and industrial wiring.
  26. Additional duties maybe assigned by Management.

 

PHYSICAL AND MENTAL REQUIREMENTS:

  1. Ability to stand for 8-10 hours consistently (around meals and breaks).
  2. Ability to walk on flat and uneven surfaces.
  3. Ability to walk up and down stairs and ladders.
  4. Ability to work in a temperature controlled environment of -20 to 85 degrees.
  5. Able to handle frozen product with hands.
  6. Ability to grasp, grip, sort, group together, and separate product with hands.
  7. Ability to lift from floor to waist, and waist to shoulder 25lbs-50lbs.
  8. Bend, pull, push, twist, stoop, and squat.
  9. Ability to use back to lift, pull and push objects.
  10. Ability to stretch and reach over to grab objects.
  11. Ability to work in a normal bakery atmosphere and the situations it may expose such as loud noises, strong smells, and dust/flour.
  12. Ability to perform operational/manufacturing functions in order to keep the process viable.
  13. Must have the gift of sight/vision, be able to define color; for color code policy purposes.
  14. Balanced equilibrium.
  15. Able to hear; must be alert to sounds of machinery malfunctions; hear alarms and emergency announcements.
  16. Must be able to communicate (speak).
  17. Ability to take control of situations and follow them through to a successful end result.
  18. Ability to work well with all levels of management and peers.
  19. Ability to work with little supervision.
  20. Ability to effectively function in pressure situations.
  21. Computer literate.

REQUIREMENTS:

  • High school diploma or equivalent. AIB or Technical Degree preferred.
  • Three years hands-on experience in a Maintenance Supervisory level position a plus.
  • Operational background in electrical circuitry, Allen Bradley PLC troubleshooting, Electrical / Electro-mechanical regimen, refrigeration, fuel burning equipment, automation and machine mechanics.
  • Sound administrative skills, well-developed tactical / time management skills effectively applied principles to develop people.
  • Proven ability to train and motivate personnel in order to balance staffing strength with profitability and growth.
